Description

We are often approached by the film and tv industry to supply authentic flight jackets for their productions. But we also supply other equipment, such as these original 1940s USAAF anti-glare sunglasses.

Made by Beck these are of the USAC Type 'D-1 style'. Designed in the 1930s, the D-1 deisgn was the predecessor to the later, more commonly known, tear-dropped shaped 'aviator'. They have a very distinctive look which still looks contemporary today.

The frames are in a gilt-plated alloy, which as per the Type D-1 model, have a unique style nose bridge and hinge between the lenses which allows them to shape the wearers face more readily.

The lenses are made from 'Rock Glass' - and are so branded in the corner. They have the very distinctive yellow/amber anti-glare lenses which were designed to not only enhance vision in low-light conditions, but also reduce glare.

The original arms are of the wrap-around 'cable comfort' deisgn, which is a typical feature of serious aviator eyewear.

Being of 1930s design, with a somewhat delicate and flimsy structure, they are not really ideal for practical daily wearing and should be considered for use as display only.

Own a piece of original WWII and film history in one.
