Description
This contract's full designation is 'W535 AC-17756'. It was the first contract awarded to Rough Wear for B-3s, in 1941.
In the late 30s/early 40s the sheepskins used for shearling flight jackets were veg-tanned and hand-dyed which produced a mottled, patchy appearance. They were a lighter shade than those produced later in the war having a distinct reddish hue (often referred to by the collecting fraternity as 'Redskins').
This material is now exclusively reproduced by us to emulate the original skins from WWII. The veg-tanning process is very time consuming and costly, but it produces a hide that looks and handles just like the original. We then hand-dye the skins, one by one just as they would have been all those years ago; the dye is swashed on with a sheepskin pad which produces the desired affect.
To further enhance the authenticity of this unique product the leather trim, such as the outer sleeve reinforcements, pocket and seam tapes are furnished with our amazing veg-tanned WarHorse®, broken grain horsehide leather.
For the first time, since 1941, the Rough Wear® 17756 B-3 is in production again.
Due to the amount of time required to produce the special sheepskin material delivery times may be longer than other styles.
Available in sizes: 36 - 48.
