Description
Contracted to the Werber Sportswear Co. of Newburgh New York on the 21st February 1942, this was the 3rd of several contracts awarded to them.
Werber were one of the most favoured companies by the US Governement for supplying flight clothing during the 30s and 40s, and they would have surely produced a lot more if it hadn’t been for an unfortunate arson attack (allegedly by a rival manufacturer) on their factory which put them out of action for a considerable time.
This was the very same model of B-3 that was worn and favoured by General George Patton, which he became famous for wearing during the Battle of the Bulge campaign.
Their jackets are always easily identifiable as they had a distinctive ‘house style’ to their interpretation of the specs.
On this contract for example, the horizontal seam across the back panel is particularly high - higher than can be seen on any other manufacturer of this style.
