OKINAWA PANTS - Special Forces Frogskin HBT

Description

After WWII the US military continued to occupy the Japanese island of Okinawa. In fact they still have a sizeable military base there to this day. The location of the base proved to be instrumental in the subsequent wars the US were involved in, such as Korea and Vietnam.

Special Forces units which were based there would often have garments custom-made by local Okinawan tailors to better suit their unique combat needs for when they returned to combat. Camouflage shirts and trousers were often produced for these units, and today in the collectors market are referred to as ‘OKINAWA’ pants or shirts. They were unofficial garments, but nonetheless are highly desirable in the collectors market due to their rarity.

Compared to most of the issue garments, which quite often had a lot going on in terms of pleats, bellowed grenade pockets, tie-down tapes and such like, they are simpler in design and therefore lend themselves very well to contemporary wear due to this.

Cut more or less like a ‘50s jean, with two rear patch pockets, two slash side entry pockets and buttoned fly they are the coolest combat pants anyone could wish for.

Made entirely in Japan, who are the gurus in producing these types are garments, our recreation is made from an outstanding Mil Spec quality HBT which we had custom-made for the purpose. The Frogskin camo print is also accurately captured and is of the desirable ‘warmer gold’ type hue.
